Mexico will review its countervailing duty (CVD) of Brazilian rebar before it comes up for renewal in August.

ArcelorMittal, Ternium, Deacero and Grupo Simec filed a request for investigation on 11 August to review the extension of the 57.69pc countervailing duty that has been placed on Brazilian rebar imports since 1995. The duty has been reviewed and extended every five years since.

The review period will be from 1 July 2024 to 30 June of 2025, while the analysis period will be from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2025.

Mexico did not import rebar under HTS code 72142001 — the one specified by order — from Brazil in either of the specified periods, according to the country's National Institute of Statistics and Geography data aggregated by Global Trade Tracker. Data from Brazilian steel chamber Aco Brasil also showed no rebar exports to Mexico in 2024.

Mexico is a long steel-heavy country and rebar was its most-produced product in the first half of 2025, according to data from steel chamber Canacero.

It did not list in the top 10 most-imported products in the period.
