Australian producer Fenix Resources has shipped its first cargo of iron ore from its 1.5mn t/yr Beebyn W-11 mine on the Marshal Islands-flagged Bangor, which set sail from the Port of Geraldton earlier today.

The vessel will cut across the Indian and Pacific oceans over two weeks, delivering 60,000 wet metric tonnes (wmt) of ore to Qingdao Port on 3 September, according to marine tracker Kpler. Bangor is carrying 62pc Fe graded ore lumps, Fenix told investors on 18 August.

Bangor left Geraldton Port just over a month after Fenix started mining iron ore at Beebyn W-11 on 30 June. The company originally aimed to start shipments in September-December, having opened a processing plant in July.

Fenix is on track to ramp up Beebyn-W11 to capacity by the end of June 2026, raising the company's total production capacity to 4mn t/yr. The company will produce Beebyn W-11 ore at a cash cost of $50.40/t wmt fob Geraldton.

Fenix is also developing other iron ore projects, including the pre-production Beebynganna Hills and Beebyn North projects in Western Australia.

Argus' iron ore lump 62pc Fe cfr Qingdao price has been rising over the past month. It was last assessed at $112.80/t on 15 August, up from $110.35/t on 18 July.
