One of India's largest ferro-chrome producers has increased prices by around 14pc month on month for September-delivery high-carbon ferro-chrome.

The producer is now pricing material with silicon content above 4pc and phosphorus above 0.05pc at 120,000 rupees/t ($1,357.2/t) ex-works for September. It is also offering low phosphorus content (below 0.02pc) at Rs127,000-128,000/t ex-works for the same month. The company also increased the price by Rs15,000/t for material with ultra-low silicon content (below 1pc) at Rs135,000/t ex-works.

Market participants expect domestic ferro-chrome prices in India to remain high because of tight supply. The export market is quite active as well and enquiries from Europe and US are coming in because of higher steel production in those markets.

Argus assessed high-carbon 60pc ferro-chrome prices at Rs115,000-117,000/t ex-works on 11 September, a few trades also concluded in the same range.
