Norwegian September 2027 gas works set to be heavy

Norwegian offshore system operator Gassco's works schedule shows that production capacity restrictions in September 2027 will be the highest for any month since September 2024.

Overall unavailability at Norwegian fields is set to peak in 2027 in September, with capacity cuts of 115.5mn m³/d, well above cuts of 26mn m³/d scheduled as of Friday for September 2026. If realised, this would exceed the previous high of 111.9mn m³/d in September 2024 (see September field unavailability graph). The giant 129.1mn m³/d Troll field is scheduled to be off line on 2-18 September that year, the main cause of the heavy capacity outages.

Similarly, planned works across Norway's three processing plants are high at 111.63mn m³/d.

That said, unplanned outages can occur and Gassco often revises its works schedule, meaning that planned works for 2027 could be revised up or down.

Output from Norwegian fields, including Snohvit, which is linked to the Hammerfest LNG terminal, was 240mn m³/d in September 2024, despite the heavy works, and preliminary data show production at 282mn m³/d in September 2025. But production may be weaker in September 2027, given scheduled capacity cuts are higher than those in recent years.

May 2027 is set to be the month with the second-highest unavailability at Norwegian fields that year (see future unavailability graph), with capacity cuts averaging 55.7mn m³/d, higher than the scheduled capacity cuts of 49.7mn m³/d in May 2026 and above realised restrictions in both May 2025 and 2024. Processing unavailability is set at 86.4mn m³/d that month, also the second-highest for any month in 2027.

Output from Norwegian fields was 107.5bn m³ in October 2024-August 2025 — final production data for September 2025 is not yet available — slightly below 112.6bn m³ in October 2023-August 2024.

Norwegian works in 2025 have been relatively light, following heavy maintenance a year earlier and are set to be even lighter in 2026, which in turn could support strong output. And documents seen by Argus suggest that the production quotas for the Troll and Oseberg fields for the 2025-26 gas year are high.
