UAE's Fujairah storage tanks hit by drones

Storage facilities at the UAE's port of Fujairah were hit by drones on Tuesday, traders and suppliers said.

A fire broke out at the port, according to local sources, who shared videos showing a large plume of smoke rising from an unspecified tank farm. Fujairah authorities said the fire has since been brought under control.

Storage operators at Fujairah — including Vopak, VTTI, MENA and GPS — had already suspended operations and restricted staff access because of the regional security situation, traders said. These suspensions were in place before today's strike. Bunkering operations at the port have not been suspended.

The attack is among the latest in a series of Iranian drone and missile strikes across the Mideast Gulf, launched in retaliation for joint US-Israeli attacks that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on 28 February. Iran has targeted countries hosting US military assets, hitting ports, refineries, LNG and storage sites across the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Fujairah was not directly hit in earlier drone incidents in recent days, although debris had fallen near the port. The port is a key supplier of bunker fuel for ships transiting the strait of Hormuz and is the world's third-largest crude and products storage hub.
