US stainless scrap exports up in March
Houston, 6 May (Argus) — US stainless scrap exports rose in March while imports
declined, according to data from the US Department of Commerce. US stainless
exports were 26,500 metric tonnes (t) in March compared with 23,100t a year
prior. Scrap volumes to Canada rose to 3,100t in March from 2,200t a year
earlier, while exports to Mexico increased to 1,400t from 400t a year earlier.
US stainless scrap imports of 23,000t in March were down from 25,100t a year
prior, with Canadian volumes of 12,300t in the latest month down from 14,900t in
the prior year period US finished stainless exports for March were 45,500t
compared with 41,500t a year earlier, with the increase driven by higher volumes
to Mexico. US finished stainless imports in March were 75,000t, down from
102,300t in the prior year. Imports from Taiwan dropped to 11,400t in March from
16,000t in the prior year, while Indian volumes of 9,900t were down from
12,700t. Imports from Indonesia of 4,200t in March were down from 7,000t in the
prior year, while volumes of 2,700t from the UK were down from 5,800t a year
