TotalEnergies has signed agreements with Malaysian state-owned Petronas, Thai state-controlled PTTEP and Kuwait's Kufpec to buy a 30pc operated interest in the Lang Lebah and B14 gas fields, the firm announced today.

The gas fields are located off the coast of Sarawak, Malaysia, and both fields are planned to be developed as an integrated project. The Lang Lebah gas field is one of Malaysia's largest offshore gas discoveries. The combined development is expected to unlock over 6.5 trillion ft³ of gas resources to supply the existing Malaysia LNG liquefaction plant. The liquefaction plant has a production plateau of around 10bn m³/yr.

"The development of Lang Lebah and B14 resources will allow the creation of another large-scale gas hub in Malaysia, leveraging shared infrastructure, to supply gas to Malaysia LNG and meet the growing LNG demand in Asia," said Patrick Pouyanne, chairman and chief executive of TotalEnergies.

Upon the completion of the transactions, which are subject to regulatory approvals, TotalEnergies will hold a total operated interest of 30pc across both fields, alongside Petronas' 20pc, as well as PTTEP and Kufpec's stakes of 25pc each.
