Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft has signed an agreement to buy UK-based solar developer Solarcentury, as it seeks to beef up its renewable capacity.
Statkraft paid four private-equity firms £117.7mn for Solarcentury, whose 6GW project pipeline includes developments in Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, France, Greece, Italy and Chile.
Statkraft plans to add 8GW of solar and wind capacity by 2025. It said it expects solar to be the world's largest source of electricity by 2035 and to account for 38pc of global generation by 2050.
Solarcentury said it has developed 40 projects with combined peak capacity of 1.3GW since 2013.
The firms expect to complete the deal by the year's end, subject to regulatory approval.
