Argus and the environment
Argus is taking action to reduce its impact on the climate. We measure our energy consumption – in our offices and business travel – and seek wherever possible to reduce our carbon footprint and improve the sustainability of our business operations.
Argus promotes awareness of the actions that individual staff members and Argus as a business can take to reduce the impact on the environment.
Argus is a global organisation, with 30 offices in the world’s principal commodity trading hubs, and measures its own energy consumption and business travel activity, and we are committed to reducing our impact on climate change and helping others to reduce theirs.
Our commitment to sustainability
- Office energy
Wherever possible, Argus has introduced energy efficient lighting in its offices and uses motion detectors to reduce consumption in unused office space.
In the London headquarters, the electricity is 100pc renewable and Rego-backed.
- Office waste
Argus’ main offices operate recycling schemes and Argus promotes the correct separation of office waste to reduce the amount sent to landfill.
- Staff commuting
Argus encourages cycling as a method of commuting. Our London office operates a Cycle to Work scheme and provides cycle storage facilities and occasional onsite visits from a bike service and repair specialist.
- Travel and entertainment
Business travel activity including flights, other journey types and hotel stays are measured by distance or number of nights where possible and by cost where necessary.
Argus is proactive in improving the standard of information submitted by staff when claiming expenses and in encouraging staff to ensure that spending on business travel is not wasteful or excessive.
- Measuring our impact
Argus measures the energy consumption in its office locations as well as business travel and annually calculates the combined global carbon emissions of known scope 1 and 2 emissions and scope 3 emissions from business travel.
- Scope 1 - Direct energy consumption from vehicle use and mains gas.
- Scope 2 - Indirect energy consumption from purchased electricity and district heating.
- Scope 3 - Indirect energy consumption from travel by air, train and rental cars and hotel stays.
Emissions from data centre usage are sourced directly from the providers and purchased IT equipment is counted internally.
Annually, Argus Media Limited completes mandatory Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting (SECR) for energy consumption and carbon emissions in the UK.
Argus also meets the applicable ESOS requirements in the UK.
