Turkey seeks gas price arbitration with Russia

Turkey has applied to go to international arbitration with Russia over the gas prices paid by Turkish state-run importer Botas.

The application was made yesterday, an energy ministry official said, following a months-long deadlock in talks.

The countries had reached a preliminary agreement on a 10.25pc price cut, with the reduction to be backdated to the start of this year. But the agreement has not been signed, amid protracted talks on Russia's plans to build the Turkish Stream gas line to western Turkey.

The fact that six months have passed since Botas' request for a price adjustment give it the right to apply for arbitration, the company said.
