Qatar's QP adds Muntajat to petchem integration

  • Market: Petrochemicals
  • 11/06/20

Qatar's state-owned QP is to integrate petrochemical marketer Muntajat into its operations.

Muntajat is a marketer of polyethylene (PE) and petrochemical products such as methanol, MTBE and linear alkyl benzene (LAB). It currently markets PE produced by domestic firms Qapco, Qatofin and Q-Chem, using the Lotrene brand. Muntajat also markets fertilizers and metals.

The move comes as part of continuing efforts to strengthen Qatar's global competitive position in the downstream sector, according to QP. The integration is expected to take place within the next few months. Muntajat will continue to deliver contractual obligations to its customers globally during the integration.

The Muntajat integration comes almost two months after QP announced the integration of petrochemical firm SEEF. It operates a 100,000 t/yr LAB plant, which is located next to QP's refinery in Mesaieed.

Petrochemical firms in Qatar have been consolidated in recent years to cut operating costs. State-owned Qatar Vinyl merged its operations with Qapco in 2017.
