Total secured 67MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in French energy regulator CRE's latest round of renewable auction through its subsidiary Total Quadran, the firm said.

Total was awarded 20pc of total solar capacity allocated in a public tender last week. Most projects will be built on former industrial sites while three of them will be constructed directly at Total's facilities, the firm said.

CRE awarded 322MW of ground solar capacity to 45 projects at an average price of €57.40/MWh, 7.4pc lower than the price recorded in the previous tender. Another 31 solar projects for self-consumption secured a combined 9MW capacity at an average of €13.80/MWh, 14pc lower than the previous auction.

The recent projects brought Total's solar pipeline from public tenders to 606MW, the second-highest after French utility Engie at 862MW. Swiss utility Axpo's local subsidiary Urbasolar has been awarded 515MW in all eight tenders whereas French state-controlled utility EdF is fourth with 456MW of solar capacity.

Total aims to have 12GW of gross generation capacity by the end of this year — of which 7GW will be renewables — and 35GW of renewable capacity alone by 2035.
