Two new LNG carriers have joined the global LNG fleet this month, following delivery from South Korean shipyards.
Greek shipowner Latsco has received its first LNG carrier, the 173,400m³ Hellas Diana, from shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy industries (HSHI). The carrier, which sailed away from HSHI's Mokpo yard on 1 April, is on its way to Singapore, where it is likely to undergo a cool down operation. Latsco is set to receive a second LNG carrier from HSHI — the 173,400m³ Hellas Athina — in September this year.
And Japanese owner NYK Line has taken receipt of its 180,000m³ LNG Adventure from Samsung Heavy Industry (SHI). The carrier, which left SHI's Geoje shipyard on 4 April, is declaring for arrival at the Panama Canal on 23 April, suggesting that it is set to load its maiden cargo from the US or Trinidad & Tobago. The owner has at least eight more LNG carriers on its order book, five of which are scheduled to be delivered later this year.
A further three LNG carriers are scheduled for delivery this month, owned by Norway's BW Gas and Greek owners Minerva Marine and TMS Cardiff.
