Alpha Gas receives new LNG carrier

  • Market: Natural gas
  • 30/06/21

Greek shipowner Alpha Gas has received the 173,400m³ Energy Intelligence newbuild LNG carrier from South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).

The carrier, which brings Alpha Gas' fleet to five carriers and is the fourth delivered in the past 18 months, is due to sail under a long-term charter with Russia's state-controlled Gazprom. The shipowner has also signed the same-sized Energy Integrity — delivered in May this year — under term charter with the Russian firm.

The Energy Intelligence is the fourth LNG carrier to be delivered so far this month. A further three had also been expected to be delivered — two from DSME and one from Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua — but all were still berthed at the shipbuilders' respective Okpo and Shanghai shipyards. There are another three LNG carriers scheduled for delivery in July.
