Minerva Gas receives new LNG carrier

  • Market: Natural gas
  • 05/07/21

Greek shipowner Minerva Gas has taken delivery of its 173,400m³ Minerva Limnos LNG carrier from South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).

The vessel was sailing east in the Pacific today, having left DSME's Okpo shipyard on 1 July, following delivery to Minerva Gas a day earlier. The new carrier is declaring for arrival at an unnamed destination on 22 July, suggesting that it may be heading to the Panama Canal ahead of loading its maiden cargo in the Atlantic basin.

The delivery brings Minerva Gas' fleet to three carriers, following deliveries of two carriers in January and February. The shipowner has ordered a further two carriers — the 174,000m³ Minerva Chios and the same-sized Minerva Amorgos — which are scheduled for delivery in July 2021 and August 2022, respectively.

A total of five LNG carriers were delivered from shipyards globally last month, with Danish owner Celsius Shipping and Greek owners Alpha Gas, Gaslog and Capital Gas each receiving a single vessel. There are two carriers expected for delivery in July, in addition to the Minerva Chios.
