Adds in Kia production plans

South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are cutting production at their US plants for another week as the semiconductor shortage continues to weigh on the industry.

Hyundai started to reduce production at its sedan and sport utility vehicle plant in Alabama early this week. It expects to resume full production on 30 August. The company had similar production reductions in the prior week.

Kia is cutting one shift of its three shifts at its sedan and compact utility vehicle plant in Georgia from 30 August through 3 September. It expects to return to full production after the Labor Day holiday, on 7 September.

It is the latest announcement of production losses in the North American auto industry. AutoForecast Solutions upped its estimate of North American vehicles output that was either lost, threatened or could be recovered in 2021 to above 2mn this week.
