Pinnacle Polymers declared force majeure on polypropylene (PP) produced out of its 429,000 t/yr PP plant in Garyville, Louisiana, due to the impacts of Hurricane Ida, which came ashore near Port Fourchon, Louisiana, yesterday.

"At this time, we are currently unable to predict when we will return to normal production due to the uncertainties of this event," the company said in a letter to customers.

Other PP production was believed to have been impacted by the storm, including at ExxonMobil's 400,000 t/yr Baton Rouge, Louisiana, PP plant. ExxonMobil said the company operated at reduced rates at Baton Rouge during the storm.

"Our facilities did not sustain any significant damage during the storm," the company said. "Once we confirm we have access to needed feedstocks and stable systems, we will begin the process of returning to normal operations."

The Baton Rouge area is believed to be experiencing widespread power outages. The comapny did not immediately respond to questions regarding the power situation at its Baton Rouge facilities.
