The IEA has slightly raised its estimates for biodiesel production in OECD Europe in the second quarter of this year, while those for ethanol were once again revised lower.

The Paris-based energy watchdog estimates in its latest Oil Market Report (OMR) that biodiesel output in OECD Europe reached 291,000 b/d in the second quarter up from its previous estimates of 289,000 b/d. It revised down its estimate for the third quarter to 297,000 b/d, from 301,000 b/d previously. Estimates for 2021 global biodiesel production are revised down to 887,000 b/d in the November report, down by 6,000 b/d from last month's report.

The IEA estimates European ethanol production stood at 108,000 b/d in the second quarter, down from its previous estimate of 111,000 b/d. Production is expected to total 118,000 b/d in the third quarter up from the previous estimate of 110,000 b/d. The global ethanol output estimate for 2021 is at 1.895mn b/d, down by around 6,000 b/d from the previous report.
