India extends scheduled foreign flights suspension

India has extended the suspension of scheduled commercial international passenger services until the end of next month, a few days after it decided to resume operations, given concerns regarding the new Omicron Covid-19 variant.

Services are suspended until 31 January 2022, but the restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), while international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis, the DGCA said in its latest advisory.

The country had announced that it will resume services from 15 December and will return to bilaterally agreed capacity entitlements and termination of air bubble arrangements. But following the emergence of the new variant, the DGCA has said it was monitoring the situation and an effective date of resumption would be announced.
