A biofuels trial led by bunker supplier TFG Marine and shipping firm d'Amico Group showed positive findings for emissions reduction, the companies said today.

The trial of biofuel blend B30, derived from renewable feedstock supplied by TFG Marine to power the d'Amico Long Range 1 (LR1) product tanker, Cielo di Rotterdam, began in June last year has concluded.

The results of the trial showed a 4.3pc reduction in CO2 emissions per ton of fuel, reduced carbon intensity and stable NOx emissions. The tanker's Tier II NOx compliance, which forms of part of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Regulation 13 on Nitrogen Oxides output, was unaffected by the trial.

The test also found the B30 blend complies with EU fuel regulations that will be introduced in 2025. D'Amico has now certified all its LR1s can operate permanently with B30, and intends to trial B40 and B50 blends later this year.

TFG Marine successfully tested a B30 biofuel blend in [Trafigura's chartered Marlin Amethyst](https://direct.argusmedia.com/newsandanalysis/article/2168195) in 2020, and now supplies conventional marine and bio-blend fuels at the Port of Antwerp.
