The Philippines' Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved Petron's amendments to include biofuels to the refiner's primary purpose.
Petron said it received approval from the SEC on 9 January to amend the company's primary purpose to "include biofuels of all kinds and forms as among the products the company is authorised to manufacture, produce and sell."
The private-sector refiner operates a Malaysian palm methyl ester plant at Lumut in Perak state that completed an unknown capacity expansion in January 2022.
Petron also runs the only operational refinery in the Philippines, the 180,000 b/d Bataan, after the shutdown of Shell's 110,000 b/d Batangas refinery in 2020.
