Estonia’s Eesti Gas to expand Polish operations

  • Market: Natural gas
  • 01/02/23

Estonian gas supplier Eesti Gas plans to expand into the Polish gas market, the firm's head of business development Poland, Marcin Plocharski, said.

This expansion will include sales to end consumers and fuel trading companies in the country, and wholesale gas trading on the exchange, as well as over the counter, Plocharski said. The firm plans to import regasified LNG from Lithuania and potentially re-export this supply to neighbouring markets, he said. "In this way, we are part of the plan to transform Poland into a gas hub for the region," Plocharski said.

Eesti Gas in mid-January delivered LNG on board the 174,000m³ Isabella to Lithuania's 2.9mn t/yr Klaipeda terminal, with around 100mn m³ of gas allocated to the firm's customers in Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland, Plocharski said. And the firm has ordered five more such deliveries there later this year. Eesti Gas has also booked seven slots at Finland's recently commissioned Inkoo terminal.

The firm hopes to end this year with "several dozen signed contracts", and by the end of 2024 to acquire around 100 customers with a total consumption of around 1TWh/yr, according to Plocharski.
