Bangladesh’s RPGCL seeks April-delivery LNG

  • Market: Natural gas

Bangladesh's state-controlled Rupantarita Prakritik Gas (RPGCL) is looking to buy an April-delivery LNG cargo, through its parent company Petrobangla.

RPGCL is seeking a cargo for delivery over 6-7 April, likely on a des basis, through a tender which will close on 5 March.

The firm was last in the market just earlier this week seeking to buy a 30-31 March delivery to the 3.8mn t/yr Moheshkhali FSRU LNG terminal, through a tender which will close on 27 February. The tender was likely awarded to Vitol at $16.10/mn Btu, market participants said. While this price was at a significant premium to market levels, this is understandable given the narrower specifications that RPGCL would usually request for, they added.

Softening spot prices have so far mainly brought south Asian buyers, including those from Bangladesh and India, back into the market, although northeast Asian buyers have been noticeably absent in the face of high inventories.

But prices have risen somewhat since the end of last week as prompt availability has gradually reduced with the surge of buying interest from south Asia.

Both Indian state-controlled refiner IOC's tender seeking two LNG cargoes for delivery on 30 April and 13 May and fellow state-controlled Gujarat State Petroleum's (GSPC) tender seeking a second-half April-first-half May cargo could have gone unawarded, market participants said, as offers were well above the $14/mn Btu level. The former tender closed on 2 March while the latter closed on 1 March.

The ANEA, the Argus assessment for spot LNG deliveries to northeast Asia, was last assessed on 3 March at $14.23/mn Btu for first-half April, 3¢/mn Btu higher than a week earlier.
