  • Market: Petrochemicals
  • 13/07/23

Ethylene and propylene pipelines that caught fire outside of Ineos' Chocolate Bayou, Texas, petrochemical site today have been isolated, the company said.

Valves on either side of the ruptured section of the Ineos-operated pipelines were closed by crews this afternoon to help put out the blaze. An explosion from at least one of the pipelines and fire occurred near FM2004 and Chocolate Bayou in a rural area, Alvin emergency management coordinator Ron Schmitz told Argus.

Crews began responding to the incident some time after 2:30pm ET and had isolated the fire by around 5pm ET.

Ineos' Chocolate Bayou site is home to two 930,000 metric tonne (t)/yr mixed-feed crackers. The site uses that ethylene to produce 462,000 t/yr of alpha olefins.
