Hong Kong-based Banle Energy, ASB Biodiesel and Seven Seas Oil completed their first B24 biofuel bunkering operation in Hong Kong.
The B24, which contains 24pc biofuel, was delivered to 1,902 dwt tanker Pacific Joy, according to Banle.
The biofuel delivery is part of its strategy to comply with the new International Maritime Organization (IMO) strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Banle said.
"B24 biofuel bunkering operation in Hong Kong is a significant step forward for our contribution of environmental sustainability and for the shipping industry's efforts to reduce carbon emissions," said Banle chief executive Teck Lim Chia.
The revised IMO target calls for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20pc, and preferably 30pc, by 2030, and by at least 70pc, and preferably by 80pc, by 2040.
In June, Singapore B24 biodiesel for bunkering was assessed at $192.81/t and $196.30/t discount to Hong Kong and Singapore very low-sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) delivered bunkers, respectively, Argus data showed. The Singapore B24-Singapore and Hong Kong VLSFO premiums have narrowed from over $259/t in February.
