South Korea's SK Geo Centric (SKGC) has signed a deal with global packaging company Amcor for the supply of chemically-recycled polyolefins raw materials.

SKGC, the petrochemical arm of South Korean conglomerate SK Group, will provide recycled polyethylene (rPE) and recycled polypropylene (rPP) derived from pyrolysis oil produced at the firm's Ulsan Advanced Recycling Cluster (ARC). Operations are set to begin in 2025, SKGC said on 26 October.

Amcor will use the chemically-recycled PE and PP to produce packaging materials for pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food packaging applications. The products manufactured with chemically-recycled polyolefins are to be sold to consumer goods companies. The quantity of polyolefins supplied in the agreement was not stated.

SKGC's Ulsan ARC will have chemical recycling facilities apart from pyrolysis, including depolymerization and high-purity PP extraction. Across all operations the ARC will have a chemical recycling capacity of 320,000 t/yr, SKGC said.

SK Chemicals, the biochemistry division of SK Group, signed a letter of intent with global cosmetics company Estee Lauder to increase the amount of recycled content in its packaging. The two companies entered into a preliminary agreement on 17 October for the supply of chemically-recycled raw materials for Estee Lauder and its sub-brands' products.
