US battery technology startup Factorial Energy shipped its first solid-state lithium metal battery cells to Canada's Avidrone Aerospace, enabling extended range for cargo drones.
The battery cells were integrated into Avidrone's long-range, dual-use unmanned aerial systems for demonstration flights, evaluating energy efficiency, power discharge, and range under real-world conditions such as high altitudes, temperature fluctuations, and sustained vibrations.
Factorial stated that its solid-state lithium-metal battery cells deliver up to 50pc higher energy density compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries.
Avidrone develops and manufactures unmanned rotorcraft capable of carrying payloads over 50lbs across distances of up to 50 miles, serving government, defense, and commercial sectors.
