US propane's value relative to crude averaged 47.8pc of Nymex WTI in June, its highest value to crude futures for the month since June 2021.
Mont Belvieu, Texas, LST propane averaged only 40.4pc of crude in 2024 and 34.2pc in 2023, as production from gas processing outpaced exports. This year's strength versus WTI underscores the strong export demand for feedstock from Asia in spite of growing production during the same timeframe.
Higher values relative to crude benchmarks come as US propane exports averaged 1.8mn b/d so far in 2025, up from 1.4mn b/d in 2021, the last time propane was valued as strongly. US production of propane has averaged 2.797mn b/d so far this year, up from 2.28mn b/d in 2021.
The EIA reported on Wednesday a 3mn bl build in propane inventories for the week ended 27 June, leaving US stocks at 75.651mn bl, up 11pc compared with the five-year average for this time of year.
