Firms booked some capacity for gas deliveries to Ukraine in today's monthly auction, in addition to quarterly capacity bookings, suggesting that Ukrainian imports might remain strong next month.
Polish operator Gaz-System sold 44.6 GWh/d, or around 4.2mn m³/d, of exit capacity at the GCP Gaz-System/UA TSO point towards Ukraine for August deliveries today. And 37.2 GWh/d — 3.5mn m³/d — had been previously sold for July-September in quarterly auctions in early May. If fully utilised, this suggests total flows to Ukraine from Poland might be close to 81.8 GWh/d or 7.8mn m³/d in August.
Ukrainian system operator GTSOU sold only 5.6mn m³/d or 59 GWh/d of entry capacity at the point for August in the monthly auction today, with no entry capacity booked on a quarterly basis.
The Ukrainian operator also sold 8.8mn m³/d — 92.8 GWh/d — of entry capacity at the Bereg virtual interconnection point (VIP) at the Hungarian border for gas deliveries next month. Its Hungarian counterpart FGSZ sold 288 MWh/d out of 305 MWh/d of capacity remaining available for August as a monthly product. Almost all capacity at the point was sold out as a quarterly product in early May — 103.2 GWh/d out of the 103.5 GWh/d or around 9.75mn m³/d out of 9.8mn m³/d.
In addition, firms booked 1.8mn m³/d or 19 GWh/d of entry capacity at the Budince point on the Ukrainian-Slovak border in today's auction. And 6.2mn m³/d or 64.8 GWh/d of exit capacity from the Slovak grid was reserved for next month, according to grid operator Eustream data.
This means that GTSOU's counterparts in Poland, Hungary and Slovakia sold in total 250.1 GWh/d or 23.7mn m³/d of exit capacity towards Ukraine in quarterly and monthly auctions for August gas deliveries. If fully utilised, this would result in just below 26.8mn m³/d of net Ukrainian imports in July. But some additional capacity bookings could be made on a shorter-term basis.
Ukrainian gas deliveries from Poland have been 8.3mn m³/d this month, up from 5.4mn m³/d in June, while imports from Hungary have totalled 9.7mn m³/d, against 8.9mn m³/d last month. Imports from Slovakia more than doubled to 8.6mn m³ on 1-20 July, from 3.7mn m³/d last month.
And there have been around 163,000 m³/d of deliveries from Greece through the Trans-Balkan pipeline under the Route 1 product since its start on 1 July.
