Johannesburg, 23 September (Argus) — Shell declared a force majeure for supplies of gas to the 22mn t/yr capacity Nigeria LNG plant on Bonny island today. There was no immediate comment from Nigeria LNG on whether it had declared a force majeure for its LNG exports because of the disruption to its gas supply.

Shell declared the force majeure after it shut down the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) for repairs because of damage caused by the theft of crude at Bodo West and Oloma.

“Some 150,000 b/d of oil and 500mn ft³/d of gas are deferred,” Shell said. The TNP has been repeatedly targeted and has been shut down five times since early July because of multiple leaks resulting from crude theft,” it said. “Shell is working to repair and reopen the line as soon as possible.”

Shell has also declared a force majeure for Bonny crude exports because of the latest incident. Shell, Total and Italian firm Eni supply gas to the LNG plant.
