Trafigura joins global transparency initiative

  • Market: Coal, Crude oil, Natural gas, Oil products
  • 18/11/14

Commodity trading house Trafigura has joined the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), a global effort promoting disclosure of government revenues from production of oil, gas, coal and other natural resources.

Trafigura will begin disclosing its payments to governments in EITI compliant and candidate countries, starting next year. This includes disclosing payments to national oil companies for crude and refined products, including natural gas, will cover corporate taxes and where relevant, licence payments to governments in the 48 EITI member countries.

Trafigura is the first commodity trading house to sign up to the EITI, which was set up in 2003. The EITI said it hopes Trafigura's decision "will spur further progress towards improved accountability in the commodity trading industry."
