Thailand's car sales fell in March for a 10th straight month, while auto sales in Australia and Indonesia also extended their sustained slide.

Thailand's car sales in March dropped by 42pc from a year earlier to 60,105. The pace of the fall was the steepest since March 2014 and largely reflected the impact of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Australia's auto sales dipped by 18pc in March to 81,690, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. The contraction mostly reflected the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the country's economy, even though many dealerships remained open. Sales had already fallen every month since April 2018.

Auto sales in Indonesia fell in March for a ninth straight month, dipping by 14pc to 76,800. The drop in demand cut the country's total sales to 236,356 in the first quarter of the year, down by 7pc from a year earlier.
