US retail gasoline prices retreat to 9-week lows: EIA

US retail gasoline prices hit a nine-week low last week, retreating from a five-week high reached the week prior, according to US Energy Information Administration (EIA) data released today.

US average retail gasoline prices shed 2.2¢/USG to $3.118/USG in the week ended 11 August, retreating from the prior week's five-week high of $3.14/USG and the lowest point since the week ended 9 June, when prices were $3.108/USG. US Gulf coast gasoline prices fell the furthest, dipping by 5.1¢/USG to $2.68/USG, which offset a 3.2¢/USG uptick to $3.159/USG in the Rocky Mountain region.

US retail ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) prices slipped by 4.6¢/USG from the prior week to $3.754/USG. Average US prices fell to lows not seen since the week ended 7 July, when prices totaled $3.739/USG. Prices were down across all regions. In the US east coast, a 5¢/USG decline to $3.757/USG led losses in diesel prices nationwide

Compared to the same week last year, retail gasoline values decreased by 29.6¢/USG while retail diesel values have gained 5¢/USG.
