Global LPG challenges and trends in spotlight at Argus conference

The Argus LPG 2022 conference was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 27-28 October.

More than 200 representatives of businesses from 30 countries gathered to discuss trends and developments in the LPG sector.

The conference was supported by diamond sponsor Quest Group, gold sponsor Ziayee Group, silver sponsor Alkagesta, and bronze sponsors Texol, Intertrans and Pilatus. The event was also supported by Negmar LPG.

The first session started with a discussion about the global outlook. David Appleton, Vice-President of LPG Business Development at Argus Media, analysed key trends and dynamics in 2022 and the impact of high oil and natural gas prices.James Rockall, Chief Executive and Managing Director of the World LPG Association (WLPGA), discussed the role of LPG in the energy transition.

Mustafa Can Koka, LPG Supply and Trade Manager at Aygaz, presented the latest trends for LPG supply in the Mediterranean market. 

The development of the European LPG market was considered during the second session, which featured reports by delegates from Liquid Gas Europe, Dimeta, Polski Gaz and Impexneftekhim

The final session of the first day was devoted to growing LPG markets in the Middle East and southwest Asia.
The main challenges facing the industry and development prospects were addressed by speakers from Advanced Equipment, Ziayee Group, Parco Pearl Gas (PPGL), Pak-Arab Refinery, Milangaz and Basrah Gas.

After a day of presentations and meetings, attendees were able to network in an informal atmosphere over cocktails with spectacular views of the city.
The second day began with a panel discussion about transportation and logistics, with speakers from Forwardis, Negmar Shipping, Texol Group and other companies.
Svetlana Novolodskaya, Argus’ Head of LPG and Petchems for the FSU, explored the current situation in central Asian markets, with a focus on LPG for the autogas and petrochemicals markets.

Murat Celik, Head of Gas Business at Petrol Ofisi, talked about Turkey’s autogas market. 

Muhamad Fadhil, Senior Vice-President for Strategy and Business Development at Argus, gave his take on the challenges facing the Asian chemicals market, as well as some of the opportunities thrown up as economies head into recession.
