Updates with information from press conference.
An explosion and fire occurred at a propylene recovery unit at ExxonMobil's olefins plant in Baytown, Texas, around 12pm ET today.
Company safety teams have isolated the unit and contained the fire, with support from Baytown city fire fighters.
ExxonMobil did not comment on impacts to operations, but plant manager Jason Duncan said maintaining stable operations were a priority for the site.
He said 37 of around 500 workers at the complex were taken to an off-site, third party clinic to treat minor burns. He said that "no adverse environmental effects" were noticed by air quality monitoring teams.
Baytown officials ordered a shelter-in-place after crews began fighting the fire shortly after 12pm ET.
ExxonMobil's Baytown complex has propylene capacity is 934,000 t/yr, with an estimated polypropylene capacity at 705,000 t/yr, according to Argus data.
The blaze does not appear to have affected traffic on the nearby Houston Ship Channel.
