Sims taps Schnitzer for VP global trade

  • 18/06/20

Global recycler Sims Metal Management has hired ex-Schnitzer Steel executive Greg Schnitzer as vice president of global trade.

Schnitzer, former vice president of ferrous sales at Portland, Oregon-based recycler Schnitzer Steel Industries, departed the company after a nearly 17-year career earlier this week.

The move comes weeks before William Schmiedel, president of global trade for Sims, is set to retire on 30 June.

Upon retiring, Schmiedel will transition into a multi-year consulting term with the company, effective 1 July.

Michael Movsas, president of North America metal recycling operations for Sims, will assume responsibility for the company's global trade business.

Details on Schnitzer's exact role and the regions he will be overseeing are not immediately available.

Schnitzer currently serves as the president of the ferrous division for the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), a global recycling industry association.

Schnitzer Steel was founded by Schnitzer's great-grandfather Sam Schnitzer in 1906. The company became publicly traded in 1993.
