Covid-19 further delays NPK plant in Kenya

Kenya-based producer MEA Fertilizers has further delayed the start-up of its new NPK plant in Nakuru, Kenya, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 100,000 t/yr Fertiplant facility was scheduled to begin test runs in March-April, but this was delayed to June-July because Chinese engineers working on the project were unable to return to Kenya after travelling to China for the lunar new year holidays, given virus-related travel restrictions.

MEA Fertilizer is now working with local engineers to complete the facility, but has pushed the start date back to September-October.

The plant will use steam granulation to produce a range of NPK grades according to local and regional demand.
