Oman will lift an air travel ban on passengers arriving from at least 21 countries on 1 September, a move that will support domestic jet fuel demand.

Oman's civil aviation authority said today that the ban, which it has imposed since at least early March, will allow travel from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh among other countries. All arriving passengers are required to be fully vaccinated, with the last dose required to have been received not less than 14 days ahead of estimated arrival time. Passengers are also subject to have a negative PCR test on entering Oman, to prevent the spread of the more contagious Delta variant.

The announcements comes a couple of days after Oman completely lifted a nationwide night-time curfew following a fall in the number of new daily Covid-19 infections in recent weeks. Cases have fallen significantly, averaging 247/d so far this month compared with an average of 881/d in July and 1,710/d in June.

Oman's jet fuel demand is likely to rise as international travel restrictions are lifted. Jet fuel demand was at 3,500 b/d in the January-July period, 41pc and 74pc lower than in the corresponding periods in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
