Global steelmaker ArcelorMittal has increased its flat steel prices at its Canadian and US steel mills, following other US-based steelmakers.
At ArcelorMittal's joint venture mill with Nippon Steel in Calvert, Alabama flat steel prices were increased by $100/short ton (st) and the minimum price for hot rolled coil (HRC) was raised to $1,000/st, according to an announcement from 21 February. The move is in line with other major steelmakers Cleveland-Cliffs and Nucor, who did the same early yesterday, while US Steel increased its prices by $100/st.
The Calvert mill also opened up its April books for HRC and said orders for cold rolled coil (CRC) and hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil products for April need to be entered no later than the close of business on 1 March.
In Canada, ArcelorMittals' Dofasco mill in Ontario raised its spot prices by C$140/st ($103/st) to minimum prices of C$1,340/st for HRC, C$1,600/st for CRC and HDG, C$1,610/st for galvanneal, and C$1,640/st for galvalume.
