Australia's Ampol offers rare residual fuel spot supply

Australian refiner Ampol has offered rare residual fuel spot cargoes, after it shut the fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCC) at its 109,000 b/d Lytton refinery in Brisbane.

The Australian refiner could have offered two cargoes for April-May loading, said traders. The grade of the cargo could not be confirmed. But the cargo is likely used as a feedstock for its FCC, said traders.

Ampol recently shut a FCC at its Lytton refinery for repairs, because of an unexpected issue with the unit's slide valve. The refiner "temporarily ceased operating" the FCC unit to conduct maintenance on the valve, and the unit should return to service in early May, said Ampol in a filing to the Australian Securities Exchange on 27 March.

The Lytton refinery is one of only two operating refineries in Australia, with the other being the 128,000 b/d Geelong refinery in Victoria.
