Corrects location in paragraph 2 to Balkan region of Turkmenistan

South Korea has sought support from Turkmenistan for its companies to participate in the construction of two fertilizer plant projects in the central Asian country, according to the east Asian country's ministry of trade, industry and energy.

South Korea's industry minister Lee Chang-yang asked for Turkmenistan's support for its companies to win a urea and ammonia fertilizer project in the Balkan region of Turkmenistan, and a phosphate fertilizer project in Turkmenabat city, during a meeting with Turkmenistan's deputy prime minister for construction, industry and electric power Baymyrat Annamammedov in Seoul on 19 July.

The combined value of the two projects will be around $2.5bn (3.16 trillion won), but completion timelines and other details have not been disclosed.

Lee cited previous South Korea-Turkmenistan cooperation as precedent for the request for company participation in the two fertilizer plants. Turkmenistan's state-owned natural gas producer Turkmengaz and South Korean conglomerate LG had signed a joint sales agreement for the Kiyanly petrochemical plant in the central Asian country in April 2017. The plant was completed in 2018.
