Marathon Petroleum's 596,000 b/d refinery in Garyville, Louisiana, reported a fire stemming from a release of naphtha from a storage tank this morning.
The fire was contained within the facility, according to a Marathon representative, but officials from St John the Baptist Parish, where the Garyville refinery is located, issued an evacuation order for residents within a one-mile radius of the plant.
Photos and video posted by local media show a massive black cloud rising from flames on a large storage tank at the refinery.
It is not immediately clear how large of an impact the fire will have on plant operations.
