Poland's chemical conglomerate Grupa Azoty has again delayed completion of its 437,000 t/yr propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and 429,000 t/yr polypropylene (PP) plant in Police, northwest Poland, citing "unexpected problems during start-up of some installations".
The plant contractor, Hyundai Engineering, notified Azoty that completion of the project will be delayed by 2-3 months, Azoty said.
It is the second time that the Polish company and Hyundai have delayed the plant's completion — in 2022 they agreed to increase the project budget and extend construction time by six months.
Azoty had initially planned to start the PDH/PP project by the end of 2022. The Polish company has not specified a new timing for the plant's start-up, nor which installations have been affected by the start-up issues.
Azoty held an event in June marking the start of the 429,000 t/yr polypropylene unit. It then said it had expected to start commercial sales of propylene in European markets in August and complete the whole project by the end of 2023.
