BP's 435,000 b/d Whiting, Indiana, refinery has yet to restart operations after a power outage on 1 February.
Whiting, the largest refinery in the US midcontinent, is "working toward a phased restart of the refinery," a BP spokesperson told Argus this afternoon. The company has established a team to "mitigate potential fuel supply disruptions for our customers in the Midwest," the spokesperson said.
BP previously planned to restart operations on 2 February according to a 1 February report from the nearby City of Whiting citing company officials. BP then said on 2 February that power had been restored and operations had been stabilized at the refinery, giving no time line for a restart.
The outage spiked regional motor fuel prices and lowered Canadian heavy crude prices last week.
Whiting produces about 238,000 b/d of gasoline, 95,000 b/d of diesel and 48,000 b/d of jet fuel and supplies approximately 7pc of all asphalt in the US, according to BP.
