Gothenburg completes first LNG cruise ship bunkering

The Port of Gothenburg has completed its first LNG bunkering for a cruise vessel, the port authority said today.

The port supplied LNG to the RC Ilma, a 241-meter-long megayacht with a gross tonnage 46,750t. The dual-fuel vessel can run on both LNG and marine gasoil (MGO).

LNG is seen as one of the most viable options for meeting carbon emission reduction targets under regulations such as the EU's FuelEU Maritime and the IMO's net-zero strategy.

According to industry group Sea-LNG, LNG-fuelled vessels can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 23pc on a well-to-wake basis, offering an immediate way to lower compliance costs.
