Norwegian gas production fell on the year in July, with a drop in output from the giant Troll field driving the drop.
Production from Norwegian fields — excluding the Snohvit field, which supplies the 4.2mn t/yr Hammerfest LNG terminal — averaged 320.9mn m³/d in July (see Norwegian fields graph), the latest data from the Norwegian Offshore Directorate show. This is below the 338.7mn m³/d a year earlier.
Output declined at most of Norway's largest producing fields, most notably at Troll. The field produced 108.1mn m³/d in July, down from 124.2mn m³/d a year earlier. Maintenance drove the fall, with capacity limited by on average 20.5mn m³/d on 26 out of the 31 days in July.
There was no significant maintenance, lasting more than one gas day, at any other Norwegian fields in July, according to data from offshore system operator Gassco.
Output also fell at the 27.5mn m³/d Oseberg cluster and the 21.6mn m³/d Aasta Hansteen field. Oseberg cluster production fell to 24.2mn m³/d from 24.4mn m³/d a year earlier. Output from Aasta Hansteen declined sharply to 18.9mn m³/d from 25.2mn m³/d.
And production from fields that can deliver only to the UK was 17.8mn m³/d in July, down on the year from 22.7mn m³/d.
That said, an uptick in production at some fields slightly offset the overall decline.
Production rose sharply at the 31mn m³/d Ormen Lange field to 26.7mn m³/d in July, up on the year from 21mn m³/d in July 2024, and the highest for any month since September 2022. The field's technical capacity increased to 31mn m³/d in July, from 18.6-25 mn m³/d following the installation of a sub-sea compressor.
And there was a significant rise in production at the smaller 15.1mn m³/d Visund field. Visund's output increased to 15.6 mn m³/d in July, from 8.1 mn m³/d a year earlier when production was restrained by long-term works.
