Taiwan’s Green On to expand SOP capacity in 2026

  • Market: Fertilizers
  • 28/10/25

Taiwanese potassium sulphate (SOP) producer Green On is adding two new Mannheim production lines totalling 20,000t/yr to its current 80,000t/yr facility, and is expected to reach 100,000t/yr of total capacity by the second quarter of 2026.

The Mannheim process refers to the industrial method of producing SOP and a by-product of hydrochloric acid from using muriate of potash (MOP) and sulphuric acid. SOP is a potash fertilizer that is mainly used on chlorine-sensitive crops like tobacco, and certain fruits and vegetables.

Green On will flexibly allocate the total output of each grade — standard, water-soluble and granular SOP — according to market demand, the producer said.

Green On is currently working on the expansion and construction is progressing smoothly. They will need another six months to complete the planning of various auxiliary facilities of the expansion plant according to regulatory requirements in Taiwan and expects to start commercial production earliest by April 2026.

Fellow Taiwanese producer Sesoda is also planning to add capacity to its 140,000t/yr Mannheim plant. Sesoda is currently carrying out internal evaluation and has yet to announce any firm dates for reaching commercial production for its additional capacity.
