Singapore, 9 March (Argus) — ExxonMobil said it is today shutting down several units at its refining complex in Singapore for scheduled maintenance that will last about nine weeks.

The firm did not specify which units would be shut down or how much capacity will be off line. But it had been expected to carry out scheduled maintenance starting this month on the Group 2 base oils unit at its 310,000 b/d Jurong refinery complex in Singapore.

The 24,000 b/d unit is the largest Group 2 base oil plant in Asia-Pacific. ExxonMobil's other base oil unit in Singapore is a 14,000 b/d Group 1 plant at its 295,000 b/d Pulau Ayer Chawan complex on Jurong Island.

Maintenance work on the Group 2 base oil unit had been expected to start later in March and last for about a month, at a time when several other Asia-Pacific plants are also set to start planned maintenance. Refiners have been building stocks ahead of the shutdowns, tightening supply.
