Japanese-Norwegian shipping joint venture Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers is poised to commission a 152,000t shuttle tanker to transport crude offshore Brazil.
The Raquel Knutsen was built by Chinese shipbuilder Cosco Zhoushan Shipyard and will be chartered to Repsol Sinopec Brazil, a joint venture of China's state-controlled oil firm Sinopec to carry out Spanish oil firm Repsol's upstream projects in Brazil. The tanker will be chartered for up to 15 years to ship crude produced in the Santos and Campos basins.
The latest tanker brings to 29 the number of vessels operating under the Knutsen NYK venture, transporting crude primarily in the North Sea and offshore Brazil. Knutsen NYK commissioned the 157,000t Carmen Knutsen in January last year for Repsol to transport crude offshore Brazil for five years.
