This week US spot benzene rebounded from the year's lows despite ongoing weakness in WTI futures.
Spot ddp benzene for November delivery touched 309¢/USG 13 November, the lowest price in 2014, as crude futures hit four-year lows of $74.21/bl that same day. Since then, benzene rallied 21.5¢/USG to 330.5¢/USG as of yesterday as buyers re-entered the market.
Benzene is now trading at 1.86 the value of WTI, up sharply from the 1.75 seen 13 November.
Participants seeking cheap barrels boosted liquidity, particularly for December volumes, with a total of 200,000 bl traded.
